Surgical
operations of all benign and malignant diseases of the digestive
system from the oesophagus to the intestines. This includes
diseases of the liver and biliary tracts and the pancreas. Large
operative surgery of abdominal carcinoma.Endocrine surgery is
one of our specialties. Modern techniques, using enlarged optics
and nerve stimulation, are available for thyroid and parathyroid
operations, thus minimising the risk to the patient.
We
perform artery enlargements, conduct bypass operations, shuntoperations
in case of dialysis, as well as surgery to varicose veins.The
department of vascular surgery also practises all modern techniques
of endoscopic and laparoscopic operations.In close co-operation
with the radiological department, we treat metastatic diseases
(through operations, embolisation, radio frequency ablation,
Cytotoxininstillation).

The
department is recognised as a centre of competence for Coloproctology
by the German Society for Visceral Surgery.The department performs
surgery, diagnosis and therapeutic treatment for patients with
diseases of the intestines and the anus.Treatment includes coloproctology
and all colon and anal surgery (resection procedures with colon
diseases including resection of tumours).

Endoprosthetic
surgery of hip, knee and shoulder
- Modern navigational equipment, using computer-aided procedures,
is employed for knee replacements.
- Arthroscopic procedures on large and small joints, including
hands, injuries to nerves, ligaments etc.
Plastic surgery, skin replacements after burns and accidents.
- Corrections to the axis of the body, correcting imperfections
to hips, knees and feet.

The
gastroenterological department is a centre for endoscopic diagnosis
and treatment in the Northwest of Germany.The Clinic is recognised
as a centre of endoscopic investigations, including investigations
on behalf of 80 other hospitals. Many thousands such investigations
have been performed.
The department performs:
- Diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system
(gastroenterology)
- Endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of the liver and gall
tracts and the pancreas, using supersonic procedures and
reflection techniques.

 The
department supports the medical teams of the other departments
in their diagnosis and treatment with digital radiological images
and modern methods in radiology and nuclear medicine including
16-line Spiral Computertomograph and Positron-Emission-Tomography
(PET).

- Pain treatment
- Intensive care after surgery or during hospitalisation,
as required:
- assisted breathing with support equipment
circulation therapy through supervision of heart functions.
- In case of kidney failure blood cleansing, dialysis,
CVVH, CVVHD
- Preoperative general anaesthesia, regional or combined
applications, following discussions with the patients
- Postoperative or chronic pain treatment with medicines
or analgetic procedures close to the spine supported by
accupuncture or nerve stimulation techniques (TENS), as
required

Treatment
for Men and Women
Men: Kidney changes, Ureter and
bladder problems, treatment of the Urethra, the scrotum, testicles,
and the prostrata
Women: Problems with kidneys, the Ureter, bladder
and urethra. Women are generally treated by gynaecologists

Operating
Theatres
Seven Operation theatres support the surgical
needs of all speciality departments (see under Treatment).
Some 8000 surgical operations are performed each year. 16 Operating
sisters attend in this specialised area.
General
Care
Patients care is executed according to predetermined standards,
which are tested and revised as required and then meticulously implemented.
Each ward has appx 32-24 beds. Clinical social services organise
after hospital care.
A school of nursing is run by the hospital and short time nursing
can be arranged.
Spiritual
Support
Spiritual support is available for all denominations. Visits by
pastors can be arranged. In support of the needs of all patients
in word and deed.
The hospital has a chapel and regular services. Divine service
can also be followed on the Television screen from the hospital
bed.
